A romantic summer celebration amongst the history and beauty of one of Scotland’s most REMARKABLE stately homes.
Mairi & Ruairidh’s wedding took place in late June 2026. As a team, we were there to capture their day through both photography and film. I’m still working on their wedding film, which I’ll be adding here in the future.
This was our first time photographing a wedding at the iconic Dumfries House, and it really is a magnificent Scottish stately home. With a place of such historical significance, there naturally come a few rules from the management team. Some of the more ornate pieces of furniture can only be used by the bride and groom, while certain paintings and works of art are off-limits to photography. None of this was a problem at all, but it gives you an idea of just how historically significant and carefully preserved this venue is.
The day had a slow and intentional start. I met with the chaps and we headed outside for some group photographs, experimenting with different poses, heights and levels to create the more editorial group portrait you’ll see below.
Meanwhile, a bagpiper played from the rooftop of the house — quite a wonderful sight, and a very Scottish way to begin a wedding day.
Back with the ladies, Mairi shared an emotional first look with her dad on the opulent staircase before making her way down to the ceremony room.
And the ceremony room itself is truly a work of art.
The ancient hanging tapestries create one of the most striking and luxurious settings for a wedding ceremony I’ve encountered in Scotland. Standing amongst them, surrounded by so much history, you can’t help but wonder about all the people who have walked through these rooms before you.
As with most wedding days, it was over far too quickly. It was a genuine pleasure to capture Mairi & Ruairidh’s celebration, and I’m already looking forward to spending more time at Dumfries House in the future. After one wedding, I feel like I’ve only just scratched the surface of what this incredible venue has to offer.
